Expanded Perspectives

On this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how bee populations around the world have been in decline for years due to a number of reasons that make it extremely difficult to fix the problem. Urban development, insecticides, fungicides, illness, climate change, and many other factors have been determined to be responsible for the decline in bee populations. This week, the nonprofit Bee Informed Partnership and the Apiary Inspectors of America published their annual survey of 4,963 beekeepers in the United States and it seems that we still have a problem. But it was a slightly better year for our vital pollinating friends. Then, millions of Americans say they engage in extreme binge drinking — or downing at least eight to 10 drinks containing alcohol on a single occasion — and the behavior appears to be on the rise in the U.S., according to a new report. The findings are concerning because this high level of drinking is linked with health and safety risks, including an increased risk of injury or even death, according to the researchers, from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The study "reveals that a large number of people in the United States drink at very high levels and underscores the dangers associated with such 'extreme' binge drinking," George F. Koob, director of the NIAAA, said in a statement. The researchers analyzed information from more than 36,000 Americans ages 18 and older who completed a survey about their alcohol consumption in 2012 to 2013. The researchers asked the participants to report the maximum number of alcoholic drinks they consumed on a single day in the past year. Binge drinking was defined as consuming four or more drinks on a single occasion (for women), or five or more drinks on a single occasion (for men), while extreme binge drinking was defined as consuming double those amounts, or more.

Then, for years, scientists have debated whether heavy inland snowfall on the vast East Antarctic Ice Sheet — Earth’s largest — balances out the rapid melting in West AntarcticaGiven enough snowfall, the continent might not yet be contributing to sea level rise. Most research shows the melt rate is so high that the continent is indeed losing ice. But in 2015, a group of NASA scientists published a controversial study that found Antarctica was instead gaining ice. The NASA team combined space- and land-based measurements and found so much snow dropping in East Antarctica that even with drastic melting elsewhere, the continent was adding some 80 billion tons of ice annually. It contradicted prominent previous findings — including reports from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The result drew global headlines and excited climate change skeptics. That’s despite warnings from the study’s lead author, NASA Goddard’s chief cryospheric scientist Jay Zwally, who predicted that melting would outpace increased snowfall in a decade or two. Then, An Arizona witness traveling by train through Apache County reported watching and photographing six hovering, “two-story” objects beaming light to the ground level.

After the break Cam brings up the incredible tale of "The Black Flash". Shadowy figures have long haunted the pages of history. From ghosts to goblins to things less mentionable, the human psyche has a habit of inventing monsters to inhabit the dark reaches of the unknown. Several such figures have been chronicled: the Halifax Slasher, the London Monster, and Spring-Heeled Jack, to name a few. Today, we’ll be adding another cloaked and hooded terror to the rogue’s gallery, this one known by a name straight out of a comic book: the Black Flash. All of this and more on this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives!

On this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how a couple and some friends traveled to Atlantic City, New Jersey for some fun but only had a strange encounter with a Black Eyed Kid. Then, it’s no surprise that the Tyrannosaurus rex had a mighty bite, but just how powerful were its gigantic chompers? A study published Wednesday suggests that the terrifying carnivore crushed its prey with a jaw-dropping 7,800 pounds of force — more than double what any living species can deliver. Then, a Wisconsin witness at Sawyer County reported watching “three stacked orbs” hovering at a nearby tree line for 45 minutes. Then, unusual precipitation doesn’t just belong in myth and legend, and it’s more common than you might think.

After the break Kyle brings up one of the most famous UFO sightings of all time simply known as "The Rendlesham Forest Incident". Dubbed “Britain’s Roswell”, the Rendlesham Forest incident, which took place over a series of nights in December 1980, continues to fascinate UFO enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists. As the years have passed, the facts have become increasingly hazy, as statements change and new witnesses come forward. But what we do know for sure is that, in the early hours of December 26 1980, US military personnel (sections of the US Air Force were temporarily stationed at RAF bases in Woodbridge and Bentwaters) spotted strange lights above Rendlesham Forest. On this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show off talking about how it might be wise to look away now if you are eating or have a weak stomach, but scientists have discovered that ingesting bogers is good for teeth, and overall health. Scientists at a number of universities including Harvard and the University of Saskatchewan and say parents should not discourage their children from picking their noses because they contain 'a rich reservoir of good bacteria.' Eating snot can also prevent bacteria from sticking to teeth, according to the article published in the journal of the American Society for Microbiology. The findings even suggest snot could defend against respiratory infections, stomach ulcers and even HIV. Then, A Canadian witness at Edson reported a glowing object following her vehicle just 20 feet overhead.

Then, this summer, darkness will fall across the face of America. The birds will stop singing, the temperatures will drop and the stars will become visible in the daytime sky. In about 100 days, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the continental United States for the first time since 1918. Astronomers are calling it the Great American Eclipse. For the amateur sky-watcher, a total eclipse presents a rare opportunity to witness a cosmic hiccup in our day-night cycle. For solar astronomers, however, the eclipse offers something else: three minutes (give or take) to collect as much data as possible about the sun’s usually hidden outer atmosphere. Then, the host of the Italian paranormal Youtube channel, The Theory of Truth, spoke of his strange creature encounter in the summer of 2011.

After the break Cam and Kyle speak with Lon Strickler about many of the recent Mothman sightings near the city of Chicago. Lon began the 'Phantoms and Monsters' blog in 2005, which has steadily grown in popularity and read daily by tens of thousands of paranormal enthusiasts, investigators and those seeking the truth! His research and reports have been featured on hundreds of online media sources. Several of these published reports have been presented on various television segments, including The History Channel's 'Ancient Aliens', Syfy's 'Paranormal Witness' and 'Faked or Faked: Paranormal Files', & Destination America's 'Monsters and Mysteries in America.' As well, he has been interviewed on several radio broadcasts, including multiple guest appearances on 'Coast to Coast AM' and 'Darkness Radio.' He was also featured on Destination America's 'Monsters and Mysteries in America' television show for 'The Sykesville Monster' episode. 'Phantoms & Monsters Fortean Research', in conjunction with the 'UFO Research Center of Pennsylvania,' 'Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society,' 'Crypto Four Corners International' and 'Astral Perceptions Universal', investigates all facets of the paranormal and the supernatural...be it terrestrial or non-terrestrial phenomena. We are a 'not for profit' organization. The clients are never asked or pressured to compensate us for the services we provide. The goal is to research the reported incident and to find the true nature of the account.

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how when Uber first announced its crazy-sounding plan to explore “on-demand urban aviation”— essentially a network of flying taxis that could be hailed via a smartphone app and flown from rooftop to rooftop — the company made it clear that it never intended to go it alone. Recently it kicked off a three-day Elevate conference in Dallas, Texas, the ride-hail company announced a slew of partnerships with cities, aviation manufacturers, real estate, and electric charging companies, in its effort to bring its dream of flying cars a little closer to reality. Then, a Pennsylvania witness at Lancaster County reported watching a nearly 100-foot-long, triangle-shaped object hovering at the tree top level. The witness was driving along back roads between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, when the incident began.

Then, a woman in claims she witnessed a “Bigfoot” in Gaston County, North Carolina. 47-year-old woman Tracy Hibberts told Cryptozoology News she was at a restaurant near a wooded area when she spotted the hominid. Then, this strange story comes from the Nigerian website naij.com and is allegedly confirmed by Sikah Bersah, a member of the National Service personnel in the Volta region of Ghana. He said that residents of the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region had reported that their pigs, cows, chickens and other livestock were being mysteriously killed by something that eats the intestines and internal organs and leaves the rest of the carcass. Sounds like a wild dog or a scavenging animal … except witnesses claimed it was a human that changed into a pig and chased them before disappearing. After the break Kyle brings up some disturbing cases of demonic possession, including a murder who tried to get off claiming the devil made him do it. Therefore, he is not liable.
